<img src="http://www.getdancey.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2011.jpg" alt="2011" title="2011" width="430" height="320" size-full wp-image-3651" />
Lovely photo by Paul Octavious, via todayandtomorrow.net

A resolution I keep hearing at the moment is ‘focus’. This does, from what I can tell, entail no more alcohol or partying than normal. It sounds especially dull. It is also mine.

My resolutions are not so much resolutions as to keep doing things, but better. That includes things that fell by the wayside a bit in 2010 and may or may not need a kick up the ass under the guise of a new year. More making, doing, and probably being a little bit more organised. These are all secretly fun things. Win win.

Making! More craft, cooking and silly little things that don’t start with computers.

Writing! I want to be better and more frequent.
- So for starters, updating my own blog better, and writing more frequently for Bitchbuzz. About tech if I can. Sometimes I’m not too bold with my opinions. It comes with a constant feeling of still learning, but everyone’s learning in reality.
- I may not live in Brighton any more, but I love how helpful Bored of Brighton is to people. I like getting people excited about events. So, I want to get back to updating this decently.
- Moving to London is not a resolution. It is a thing I will be doing. But I want to adventure the city, because I’ve not even scratched the surface. So, I’m going to make a big list of lots of things to do in London (possibly also called ‘a blog’). Then I’ll go to them. Simple.

Reading!
- Read more good books. Because books are good and reading makes you a better writer. Also I like books. Personally, I love reading blogs by people who read lots. I recommend MichaelJon’s and Jonathan’s.
- Look up words I don’t know and write down the good ones.
- Also, read and comment on blogs more. I rarely comment on blogs, but did earlier this week. It wasn’t anything major, but got me thinking more. In fact I felt like a genius. This can’t be a bad thing. (This may involve a much overdue sort out of my RSS feed).

And lastly, some bits and bobs that are pretty much just digital tidying:
- Sort my blog layout out, so it is nice and and I like it.
- Sort out my bloody Twitter favourites. “Oh I will come back to this insightful article and read it later.” No. I won’t.

P.S. Also keep having a jolly good time with Mike. And use my bike. Well, one can hope.

What are yours?

When I was in London over Summer I found @tiredoflondon which blogs one thing a day to do in London. I was never organised enough to use it (probably read here: in bed at weekends) but loved the idea and this month I started writing one for Brighton (Tom, the guy who writes TOL was super helpful here).

I moved here to go to Sussex Uni in October 2007 and spent my first year understanding what an Oceana was and why it should be avoided. I’ve mostly managed to miss the important side to Brighton – the bits for everyone, that don’t necessarily involve dancing badly or massive pupils, and the parts that make everyone feel that it’s in some way intrinsically different to any other city – and whilst writing @boredofbrighton I’m starting to become aware of everything I’m missing (well, to a point – I’ve still idea what’s on at the Cowley Club, but then that’s not listed on Brighton tourism sites so I might have to go leaflet hunting and ask about with hippy friends).

We like doing things, as Liam is busy demonstrating here on our way to walk around the frosty cemetery last year.

A nice person called Jonathan, who also writes a nice blog, has been writing about bands with me. He recommended the Hornblower Bros. They sing about Waterstones, how could it be wrong? I’m clueless with local bands as it seems I’d much rather keep Cat Stevens on Spotify for hours on end, than have a nose around MySpace. Perhaps my priorities are wrong.

Either way, when I’ve handed in my two looming, doom-filled January deadlines on the 14th, I want to start going to the things I’m writing about. Not all, but more. And take photos. And get more people interested, but that’s more of a side note.
